Windows Server 2003 (NT 5.2.3790.0) build guide

Windows 10 Compatibility for Windows XP/2003 - downlevel DLL’s

Later versions of Windows have DLL’s that do live in c:\windows\syswow64\downlevel

To get some Windows XP+ apps working:

• These Windows 10 DLL’s have to be copied into e.g. c:\WINDOWS\system32\downlevel
• This path were they are stored needs to be added Windows XP’s to PATH system variable, see https://cs.calvin.edu/courses/cs/112/resources/installingEclipse/path/

There are slightly patched, using a to match the import, but not all.

e.g. kernel32.dll.VirtualProtect to kernel32.VirtualProtect

Examples names of these DLL’s are:

• API-MS-WIN-CORE-STRING-L1-1-0.DLL
• API-MS-WIN-CORE-PROCESSTHREADS-L1-1-0.DLL
• API-MS-WIN-CORE-WINRT-L1-1-0.DLL
